H.265/HEVC The XF705 Professional Camcorder is the first Canon video camera that can record in H.265/HEVC, which offers a compression ratio of about 2x the mainstream coding technology of H.264/AVC - improving the efficiency of 4K data handling. By using XF-HEVC, which combines 4K UHD image quality with an extremely efficient compression standard, the XF705 can record many hours of content on versatile SD cards. Internal Recording of Two HDR Formats The XF705 Professional Camcorder records in the two most commonly used HDR formats, Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) and Perceptual Quantization (PQ), which help ensure full color rendition and wide latitude with a much greater range from black to pure white. HLG is best suited to live broadcast and live streaming events due to its internal gamma curve compatibility with conventional TVs, which helps to better handle relative luminance values. PQ is used for the colour grading and mastering of content. This is a relatively new gamma curve based on human vision characteristics that handles luminance values of up to 10,000 cd/m2 with absolute luminance. Dual SD Card Slots Dual SD card slots allow for simultaneous or relay recording. Simultaneous recording allows you to record on both SD cards at the same time, so that you can use one as a backup. Relay recording allows uninterrupted recording from one card to the other when the first memory card becomes full. Slow and Fast Motion Recording up to 120fps The XF705 Professional Camcorder supports slow and fast motion recording, and can record in a different frame rate from playback for slow and fast motion effects. Slow motion recording of up to 120 fps (x0.2) in Full HD is supported, helping to create an emotionally moving and exciting style of video. Dual Pixel CMOS AF: The XF705 Professional Camcorder features Dual Pixel CMOS AF, Canon's exclusively developed high-speed, high-precision autofocus technology. Dual Pixel CMOS AF assists not only with standard shooting, but also with 4K UHD 60p, Full HD 120p and other high-frame rate applications that require crisp frame-by-frame accuracy. Each pixel in the camcorder's CMOS sensor is configured with two photodiodes. Two independent image signals can then be detected at each photosite. By implementing phase-difference AF, smooth focusing is accomplished with much higher speed and accuracy than was possible with previous technologies. Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Touch Focus The XF705 camcorder's 4.0-inch touch panel LCD enables smooth, intuitive operation of Dual Pixel CMOS AF. This autofocus technology can be employed when shooting a scene by tapping a finger on the desired area of the scene you want the lens to focus on. Dual Pixel CMOS AF offers continuous AF within a horizontal and vertical range of the screen of approximately 80%. It also provides highly accurate Face Detection AF, which assists during single-operator shooting. Users can also use the touch panel to move the autofocus target manually. Face Detection AF The Face Detection AF feature has two modes - Face Priority AF and Face Only AF - that offer users flexibility in how they choose their autofocus for a subject or scene. Dual Pixel Focus Guide Utilizing information from Dual Pixel CMOS AF, Dual Pixel Focus Guide helps achieve precise focus by displaying focus assist information on the screen. It employs a truly innovative user interface that enables the user to see if they are focused in front of or behind the subject through visual observation, and allows quick and accurate manual focus to be achieved. This helps simplify the focusing process when shooting in 4K UHD, which requires strict focus accuracy.   HDR Recording with HLG/PQ Shooting Assist: The XF705 Professional Camcorder supports HDR recording in Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) and Perceptual Quantization (PQ) formats. This helps ensure full colour rendition and wide latitude with a much greater range from black to pure white - ideal for the delivery of live streams, broadcasts and post-production projects. The XF705 also features a variety of assist functions to support auto/manual exposure control during HDR shooting, allowing users to record HDR video using their usual shooting methods. LCD Display A built-in, high-luminance LCD display offers the ability to closely monitor HDR video capture during shooting. A viewing assist function lets users check images recorded in HLG and PQ on the SDR viewfinder. Auto Iris / Auto Exposure An Auto Iris feature controls the iris based on spotlight metering or standard metering (metering at the centre of the screen), and automatically makes adjustments so that bright areas are not too bright. Shift adjustment with the proper exposure standard is also possible with the camcorder's Auto Exposure (AE) shift mode. HDR->SDR Gain The XF705 Professional Camcorder includes a helpful feature to allow shooters to adjust exposure levels (gain) during simultaneous HDR and SDR recording. SDR gain difference vs. HDR can be fine-tuned from -7.5dB to +7.5dB. When HDR video is shot at proper exposure outdoors, SDR may become too bright, so the brightness level can be adjusted using a negative gain. When HDR video is shot at the proper exposure indoors, SDR images may become too dark, so the brightness can be set to a positive gain. Canon Log 3: Designed with creative post-processing in mind, Canon Log 3 is a gamma designed for simple grading at a deep level for toning up dark areas and adjusting colour tone/gradation to make noise less noticeable. By shooting in Canon Log 3, users can manipulate the information that's recorded, from dark areas to highlights. This makes the range for color grading wider and enables video to be produced with generous latitude that couldn't be reproduced with video gammas. Simple previews can also be performed on-site with Look-Up Table (LUT) accuracy. Canon Log 3 shooting can be especially effective for documentaries and other settings with drastic changes, along with outdoor and other locations where light conditions change frequently, or where monitoring setups may be insufficient. Wide DR Gamma (800%) Support The XF705 Professional Camcorder supports Wide DR Gamma. For natural and realistic-looking image capture that faithfully represents the scene at hand, Wide DR Gamma achieves a wide dynamic range of 800% to produce almost seamless tone gradations, resulting in smooth detail and virtually no blown-out highlights.   4.0-inch Rotating Touch Panel LCD and 0.46-inch OLED Electronic Viewfinder: An adjustable 4.0-inch rotating touchscreen LCD monitor and a built-in 0.46-inch OLED electronic viewfinder enhance usability. The monitor allows for on-camera monitoring of footage in real time and features a rotating design that brings flexibility and user preference to support 4K shooting, which demands strict focus accuracy. It rotates both left and right to support various shooting scenes, including walls and narrow spaces. The screen can be opened an additional 35 degrees forward from the usual set position to prevent accidental shock or to allow the director to check a scene in the camcorder during shooting. The OLED viewfinder displays approx. 1.23 million dots, allowing shooters to see bright parts in the image and dark shadow detail. The EVF can then be used to adjust parameters and camcorder settings accordingly. HDMI 2.0 Terminal with 4K UHD 60p Output Support: The XF705 Professional Camcorder features an HDMI 2.0 terminal that supports 4K UHD 60p output. The HDMI 2.0 terminal allows the camcorder to be connected to a standard external SSD/HDD recorder, enabling conversion to ProRes and DNx formats for efficient editing and storage. Remarkable 1" (1.0-type) Exmor RS sensor: To deliver unprecedented performance, the camera features an unprecedented 1" (1.0-type) stacked image sensor. The difference is substantial. More cinematic. Compared to smaller 1/3 or 1/4 type sensors, the 1" (1.0-type) delivers more beautiful background defocusing (bokeh). So you can focus on what you want to show and defocus the rest. Phenomenal low light performance. The sensor features 20 megapixels (14.2 MP effective). Yet thanks to the uncommonly large sensor area and back illumination, low light performance is impressive. Minimum illumination is 1.7 lux (in Low Lux mode). Faster. Sony's "stacked" sensor design incorporates memory, doubling the readout speed compared to a conventional 1" (1.0-type) sensor. This explains the camera's ability to capture up to 120 fps continuous in Full HD or capture 4K reading out all the pixels without binning. Sony also separates the circuit layer from the pixel layer to optimize high-speed performance. And we matched the sensor to the BIONZ X processor and a front-end LSI, both of which help deliver autofocus speed and precision. Fast Hybrid Auto Focus conquers action: Fast or unpredictable subject motion can trip up the Contrast Detection autofocus of conventional camcorders. The HXR-NX80 stays ahead of the action using Fast Hybrid Auto Focus (AF). This system combines both Contrast Detection and Phase Detection. Some 273 reference points cover 84% of the sensor area to lock onto moving subjects from sports and dance to natural history and breaking news. Selecting the focus area is as simple as touching the camera's LCD monitor screen. Additional features include 4K face detection, object tracking and adjustments for AF Tracking Depth. They all work together seamlessly to capture fast-moving subjects with consistent sharpness. Instant High Dynamic Range (HDR): With the ability to reproduce images from deep shadows to piercing highlights, 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR) televisions are sweeping the market and demand for HDR production is booming. While internet video, corporate and event producers recognize the benefits of HDR, they still need to deliver content quickly and effectively. The HXR-NX80 meets this demand with Sony's Instant HDR workflow. Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) recording captures HDR, yet plays back beautifully on both HDR and conventional monitors and televisions. There's no need to devote extra time to post-production work and color grading. For added versatility, the camera also provides S-Log3 encoding. Up to 120 fps continuous High Frame Rates: High Frame Rate shots can turn everyday actions into slow motion ballet. The HXR-NX80 delivers continuous 1-120 frames per second (fps) Slow & Quick Motion in Full HD. For 24p projects, the result is gorgeous 5x slow motion. There's no sacrifice in bit depth and no "windowing" of the sensor. Compared to normal frame rates, there's no crop factor, no loss in angle of view. You also get beautiful time lapse sequences down to 1 fps. And burst mode recording offers even higher frame rates - 240 fps, 480 fps and 960 fps - at specific resolutions. Professional 4K and Full HD: The HXR-NX80 records 4K (3840 x 2160) using the advanced XAVC-S codec. And you can capture XAVC-S Full HD at 50 Mbps. This advanced recording system combines stunning picture quality with workflow flexibility and storage efficiency. For compatibility with legacy systems, the camera also offers AVCHD recording. 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi® & Live Streaming via RTMP/ RTMPS: The HXR-NX80 comes with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi as standard. Simply turn on and log onto your preferred network to enjoy advanced wireless production. Live Streaming via RTMP / RTMPS protocol enables you to share scenes to YouTube, Facebook, and other social sites with high quality picture and sound - No PC required. Smartphone or tablet remote control. You can operate the camera - and view the image - from a smartphone or tablet using Sony's free Content Browser Mobile app (requires iOS 9.0 - 10.3 or Android 4.4 - 7.1 operating system). You can even connect compatible devices with one-touch NFC authentication. Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 12x zoom lens: A camera as advanced as the PXW-NX80 deserves an equally sophisticated lens. That's why Sony fixed a Zeiss lens of impressive capabilities. 29 mm wide-angle zoom (35 mm equivalent) is ideal for capturing panoramic landscapes. Zeiss T* coatings. This is a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar® lens with the legendary T* (T-star) coatings, for impressive contrast and resolution. 12x optical zoom, 24x with Clear Image zoom, 48x with Digital Extender. The 12x optical zoom increases seamlessly to 18x (in 4K) or 24x (in Full HD) thanks to the Super Resolution technology of Sony's Clear Image Zoom. The Digital Extender doubles this range yet again, up to 48x in Full HD. Lens ring enables smooth, natural adjustment of focus or zoom, depending on mode. A manual dial and buttons on the side of the body enable swift and easy adjustment of iris, ISO/Gain and shutter speed. Built-in ND filters: The HXR-NX80 makes it easy to take advantage of shallow depth of field even in exterior day shoots. There's no need to carry and mount external Neutral Density (ND) filters. The built-in ND filter wheel has positions for Clear, 1/4 (2 Stops), 1/16 (4 Stops) and 1/64 (6 Stops). Wired remote interface: You can control Focus, Zoom, Rec Start/Stop and Rec Review via the LANC wired remote interface and an accessory controller like the RM-1BP or RM-30BP, sold separately. With this interface, the camera forms a powerful, yet simple live solution with the RM-30BP and MCX-500 multi camera live producer, both sold separately. Simple live solution: Sony had a game-changing idea: enable a single operator to run a multi-camera live production. The result was a robust, cost-effective switcher, the MCX-500 multi camera live producer and the companion RM-30BP remote control. In this system, a Tally indicator will automatically appear on each camera's LCD panel and viewfinder. A red icon indicates when the shot is live (PGM) while Green indicates preview mode (NEXT). The MCX-500 supports mixing between eight video sources, four stereo embedded audio channels plus two XLR Inputs, and a dedicated Title Input. There are both internal recording and live streaming via Ustream, Facebook Live and YouTube Live. (Facebook Live and YouTube Live require V2.0 firmware.) You can also synchronize timecode among multiple camcorders using our free Content Browser Mobile 3.0 app with optional CBKZ-WTCL upgrade and devices running iOS (9.0 - 10.3) or Android (4.4 - 7.1) operating systems. Sync to your choice of camcorder or to a time that you determine. High-resolution OLED viewfinder: For precise manual focus, Sony's 0.39-type OLED viewfinder combines high brightness and contrast with the resolution of 2359K dots. The highly responsive viewfinder also eliminates color breaking. For added flexibility in composing shots, Sony supplements the viewfinder with a 3.5-type 1550K dot touchscreen LCD monitor.   Dual XLR inputs: The detachable handle has two XLR mic inputs. And even if you remove the handle, a stereo minijack mic input on the body is still available. It's ideal for shooting in confined spaces, such as a car interior, or when mounting on a gimbal. Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe: The HXR-NX80 takes advantage of Sony's flexible Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe, which provides power, signal connections and coordinated on/off switching to compatible accessories. For example, you can connect and control Sony's 2-channel UWP-D Series wireless microphone systems (sold separately). Dual media slots: To extend recording time and flexibility, the camera provides two slots for SDXC and SDHC cards. Slot 1 is also compatible with Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark 2) / PRO-HG Duo cards. To take advantage, Relay mode automatically switches recording to the second memory card when the first is full. Simul mode enables simultaneous recording to two memory cards (for example to create an immediate back-up version). The camera's two Start/Stop buttons on the handle grip and camcorder body can independently start and stop recording on different memory cards while recording in Simul mode.

Support for filmmaking: The FX30 captures stunning images with 6K oversampling and a true cinematic look. Its compact size lets you take it anywhere, and sophisticated AF and stabilization features let you concentrate on composition, not the complexity of crews and rigging. Lens and Microphone Not included XLR handle unit: Three thread holes in the XLR handle unit for accessories External monitors, recorders, batteries, video lights, extension grips, wireless microphone receivers or other add-ons can be stably and securely attached to the FX30’s XLR handle unit. Choose your audio input source The FX30’s XLR handle unit includes two XLR audio inputs, enabling quick and easy connection to a variety of external XLR microphones to capture a high-quality audio track. Memorable imagery from the Exmor R™ CMOS sensor: The FX30’s back-illuminated Exmor R APS-C CMOS sensor is ready to deliver memorable imagery with outstanding resolution and a shallow depth of field. Sony’s industry-leading image technology is packed into a new Super 35 format (20.1 megapixel*8) sensor with wide latitude. Capture the scene in 4K resolution with expressive depth of field, stunning bokeh and cinematic freedom. *8 Approximate effective megapixels for movies. Approximately 26 megapixels for still images. S-Cinetone™ for a cinematic look without grading: The FX30 incorporates S-Cinetone, based on the colour science behind the highly regarded colour and skin tones of the FX9 and FX6. It delivers the natural mid-tones that are essential to healthy-looking skin, plus soft colours and gorgeous highlights. Because S-Cinetone produces all this directly within the camera, it’s easy to achieve a beautiful cinematic look without the necessity of post-production grading. Recording formats for image quality and post-production: The FX30 can record 10-bit 4:2:2 video internally when using Long GOP or All-Intra compression, enabling fuller and more natural gradations and providing greater editing freedom. Recording in XAVC HS format roughly doubles compression efficiency*9 *10, allowing detailed 10-bit video with 4:2:2 colour sampling at comparable or lower data rates, for even better image quality and manageable file sizes. *9 Using the MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 codec and compared to normal 4K XAVC S format. *10 Catalyst Browse™ or Catalyst Prepare™ software is recommended. Dual Base ISO for cleaner images in low light: The Dual Base ISO feature provides two Base ISO settings; one at ISO 800 and one at ISO 2500. This allows you to select an appropriate noise floor, for clean images, as well as maximize the FX30’s dynamic range when shooting in both bright or low-light conditions. What’s more, a wide 14+ stops*11 of latitude minimizes the risk of blown highlights or blocked shadows over a wide range of lighting conditions. *11 S-Log3 movies, Sony tests Log recording for smooth cinematic colour grading: For full-scale productions, the S-Log3 gamma curve provided in the FX30 has been designed for smooth gradations, and to make it easier to achieve cinematic image quality when colour grading in post-production. Both S-Log3 and S-Gamut3.Cine offer high-quality colour reproduction over a wide latitude, and special care has been taken to adjust the camera’s output to ensure that the highest image quality can be easily achieved during post processing. New Log shooting modes for optimized image quality: Three modes are provided for recording with the S-Log3 gamma curve. Cine EI*12, used in Sony’s high-end Cinema Line models, offers wide latitude and the highest possible image quality. Cine EI Quick*12 simplifies setup by automatically switching the camera’s Base ISO according to the selected Exposure Index (EI). And Flexible ISO provides the greatest flexibility for exposure settings. In addition, Sony’s s709 has been added to the available LUT presets. *12 Catalyst Browse/Prepare or the Catalyst Prepare Plugin (Adobe Premiere Pro Plugin) is required. See an accurate preview of the final image with user LUTs: When recording with the S-Log3 gamma curve, the low-contrast image on the monitor can make it difficult to judge what the final image will look like. For a more accurate preview, the FX30 allows customizable LUTs to be applied to the LCD monitor preview and HDMI output, and also embedded in clips to facilitate post-production processing*13. In addition to the preset LUTs, up to 16 user LUTs can be imported into the camera via memory card*14. *13 Embedded LUTs can be used with Catalyst Browse/Prepare or the Catalyst Prepare Plugin (Adobe Premiere Pro Plugin). *14 17 or 33 point 3D LUT files in CUBE (.cube) format can be imported. LUT files with other lattice sizes can be used after conversion in Catalyst Browse/Prepare. Dependable, highly accurate autofocus: Sophisticated tracking features keep your subject in steady focus so you can concentrate on composition. Wide-area AF, with intelligent tracking, uses focal-plane phase-detection for tenacious subject tracking across almost the entire frame. Real-time Eye AF ensures precise focus on the face and eyes (for humans, birds and animals*15, while Real-time Tracking provides reliable tracking based on Sony’s unique, AI-based subject recognition. *15 Accurate focus may not be achieved with certain subjects in certain situations. Sophisticated focus functions to handle any situation: The FX30 makes fast, accurate focusing as easy as possible. AF Assist*16 smoothly switches between auto and manual focus, it enables easy rack focusing, and it can save time even when you are primarily using manual focus. Focus Map*17 makes it easy to visualize depth of field while shooting, and Breathing Compensation*18 provides a stable angle of view when rack focusing by minimizing the field-of-view shift that can occur with some lenses. *16 Not available when using the SELP1650, SEL18200LE or A-mount lenses. *17 The Focus Map function cannot be used under the following conditions: When shooting stills, when the Focus Magnifier function is in use, when using digital zoom, during USB streaming, when no lens is mounted, when an A-mount lens is mounted or when using the SEL16F28. For other lenses, please use the latest lens software. *18 Angle of view and image quality may change slightly when this feature is turned on. Breathing Compensation is not available for unsupported lenses, 120p (100p) movie recording, S&Q recording at 120p (100p) or stills. Compatibility of lenses is limited. Please see Sony support page for lens compatibility. https://www.sony.net/dics/breathing/ Flexible motion with up to 4K / 120p recording: The FX30 provides 4K recording at up to 120 frames per second*19. Extraordinarily smooth 5x (max.) slow-motion imagery*20 with autofocus provides new expressive capability, opening a whole new world of creative potential. *19 With approx. 38% image crop. Post-production editing or S&Q mode recording is required. In case of S&Q mode, data must be recorded to a CFexpress Type A memory card when the frame rate is 120(100 in PAL)fps or higher. *20 Audio recording is not available in S&Q mode. Active Mode image stabilization supports handheld movie shooting: Active Mode*21 is an optical in-body 5-axis image stabilization mode that provides increased stabilization for movie shooting. A precision gyroscope sensor accurately measures camera shake and compensates optically, making stable video possible even when shooting hand-held without a gimbal, while walking, and at 4K resolution. *21 Slight image crop in Active Mode. “Standard” setting is recommended for focal lengths of 200 mm or longer. Active Mode is not available when recording at frame rates of 120(100)fps or higher, including S&Q. Metadata to facilitate editing with Catalyst: Sony’s Catalyst Browse and Prepare software are ideal production partners for the FX30. The camera records five types of metadata: LUTs, image stabilization, breathing, camera rotation and shot marks. These can be useful when previewing and preparing to edit in Sony’s free Catalyst Browse or purchased Catalyst Prepare software*22. *22 Latest version is required. Proxy recording for efficient editing workflow: Low-bitrate HD proxy files can be recorded simultaneously in nearly all recording formats. The smaller proxy video files can be used for editing previews prior to final 4K online editing, reducing computer load and enabling a faster workflow*23. *23 Proxy recording is not available under the following conditions:- Normal movie recording at a [Record Frame Rate] of 120p (100p) or higher. - S&Q movie recording at a [Record Frame Rate] of 120p (100p) or higher.- S&Q movies at a [Frame Rate] of 120(100)fps or higher. Still image shooting function: Because the FX30 can shoot stills as well as movies, it can be handy to use when you are location hunting. For example, you can use it to shoot stills that will be used in storyboards or pre-production presentations. Multi-thread body makes a cage unnecessary: Designed for mobility and efficiency, the body of the FX30 features five thread holes (1/4-20 UNC) for accessories, making a cage unnecessary. While providing ample capacity for accessory attachment, the fact that no cage is required contributes to reduced system size and weight for easier handheld shooting. The XLR handle unit*24 provides three additional thread holes so that accessories and add-ons can be stably and securely attached. *24 The XLR handle unit is not included with the ILME-FX30B (body-only model). The XLR handle unit is planned to be released separately in early 2023. New Main menu for quick access to frequently used items: The camera’s new list-style main menu gives you access to frame rate*25, shutter speed and other essential shooting parameters. Sony FE 28-135mm f/4 G Power Zoom Lens (SELP28135G): Optimized for professional cinematography applications, the light, compact, SELP28135G powered zoom lens is an ideal complement for the full frame imaging possibilities of the FX9. Circular aperture with full-frame image circle format Motorized servo zoom for smooth, precise zoom moves Independent three rings for focus, zoom and iris with smooth, silent drive Full-frame Power Zoom Lens E-mount Super Sonic wave Motor Filter Diameter: 95mm Precision optical design supports top-quality 4K production with minimum angle of view variation while focusing and axial displacement while zooming Three control rings offer manual control for demanding large format production SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) drive in a lens designed for moviemaking achieves quiet zoom and extra-smooth iris control Compact, lightweight design that is also dust and moisture resistant is ideal for situations that require mobility plus reliability Constant F4 max aperture maintains exposure / depth of field Precision G-series optical design for HD and 4K moviemaking: SELP28135G is a powered zoom lens that has been created to satisfy professional optical and operational requirements for both high-quality still and movie imagery, including 4K, when matched with a full-frame format camera such as the A7S or a Super 35 format camcorder such as the PXW-FS7 No "Breathing": When making movies you're frequently focusing while shooting, either with autofocus or manual focus A lens that has not been designed with movies in mind might exhibit "breathing", or variations in the angle of view while focusing which can be a jarring distraction The SELP28135G features an optical design and control technology inherited from Sony's professional camcorders that ensure no breathing No focus shifting or axial displacement while zooming: Zooming is a fundamental moviemaking technique that is used for both practical framing changes as well as creative effect "Smooth" is the key requirement for video Any tracking irregularities such as jitter or axial image shifts are unacceptable The SELP28135G delivers exceptionally smooth tracking throughout the zoom range at any speed and eliminates any axial image shifting Zooming is quiet as well as responsive thanks to advanced mechanical actuator design Independent Zoom, Focus and Iris rings for superior control: Independent control rings for zoom, focus, and iris (aperture) are provided for the first time in an Alpha lens The focus mode can be switched from auto to manual simply by sliding the focus ring forward so control is maintained at all times Zoom speed can be precisely controlled over a wide range, with zoom rotation direction reversal capability All three control rings have been engineered to provide ideal torque for comfortable, responsive operation Even the pitch of the scalloping on the rings has been painstakingly designed for comfortable, slip-free control Constant F4 Circular Aperture: Constant F4 max aperture maintains exposure and depth of field regardless of the focal range you chose to zoom to When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the areas out of the focal plane appear blurred This 'bokeh' effect of the blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing polygonal shaped defocussed points of light Alpha lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result Super Sonic wave motor drive for zoom with internal zoom structure: This power zoom lens offer enhanced control and expressive potential for moviemaking, with smooth, consistent zooming that is difficult to achieve manually Details like smooth acceleration and deceleration are important too, and of course tracking is excellent throughout The SELP28135G features the world's first SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) drive in a lens designed for moviemaking to achieve quiet zoom and extra-smooth iris control Quiet Iris and auto focus: Noise while adjusting iris or focus can be an unwanted distraction on your movie soundtrack Sony's advanced iris control and linear AF motor drive system achieve quiet focusing that is also extremely responsive Part of the reason that focus control is so quiet is that original Sony linear motors are contactless, with no gears or mechanical coupling to generate noise Dust and moisture resistant design for maximum: The dust and moisture resistance design makes this lens appropriate for heavy-duty outdoor use, especially when combined with a camera that employs weather resistant measures such as the Sony's a7 series of cameras Lens-based Optical SteadyShot image stabilization: Gyro sensors built into the lens detect even the slightest movement, and the stabilization lens is precisely shifted to counteract any image blur that might occur The use of precision, quiet linear motors and technology inherited from high-end Sony professional camcorders results in exceptionally quiet, effective image stabilization that contributes to high-quality movies as well as stills Internal focusing: The middle AF group of the optical system is smaller, lighter, and easier to move rapidly to achieve focus So the overall length of the lens does not change and the lens is able to achieve shorter minimum focusing distance The filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is convenient if you're using a polarizing filter Nano AR Coating: Effectively suppress reflections that can cause flare and ghosting with Sony's original Nano AR Coating technology This precisely defined regular nano-structure allows accurate light transmission, contributing to high-quality images, even more so than lenses with coatings that use an irregular nano-structure The reflection suppression characteristic of the Nano AR Coating is superior to conventional anti-reflective coatings, providing a notable improvement in clarity, contrast, and overall image quality ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass / Super ED glass: As focal lengths get longer, lenses built with conventional optical glass have difficulties with chromatic aberration, and as a result images suffer from lower contrast, lower color quality, and lower resolution ED glass dramatically reduces chromatic aberration at telephoto ranges, and provides superior contrast across the entire image, even at large aperture settings Super ED glass provides enhanced compensation for chromatic aberration Aspherical lens elements: Aspherical lens design dramatically reduces spherical aberration while also reducing lens size and weight Spherical aberration is a slight misalignment of the light rays projected on the image plane This is caused by differences in refraction at different points on conventional spherical lenses which degrade image quality in large-aperture lenses Specially shaped "aspherical" elements near the diaphragm restore alignment of light rays at the image plane, maintaining high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and can also be used at other points in the optical path to reduce distortion Well-designed aspherical elements can reduce the total number of elements required in the lens, thus reducing overall size and weight Compatibility: A7 Full Frame Mirrorless Camera A7R Full Frame Mirrorless Camera A7S Full Frame Mirrorless Camera PXW-FS7 4K XD Camcorder
